Founded in 1969 by Baja racer and innovator Kurt Strecker, Viva Broncos built a legacy of performance and durability. What started as a passion project from a small garage in Southern California evolved into a trusted name in off-road racing—known for handcrafted parts, Baja-tested toughness, and a die-hard love for the classic Bronco.
Today, under new ownership, that same spirit lives on. Now reimagined as VIVA Chassis, we’re not just preserving the legacy—we’re elevating it.
The Origins of Viva Chassis
1960s
Viva Chassis traces its roots back to the late ‘60s, born from the grit and adrenaline of off-road racing. The founder—a San Diego native and Vietnam veteran—fell in love with the thrill of navigating rough terrain during his time overseas. After returning home, he was drawn to the raw energy of the Baja 1000, a race that soon became the proving ground for a new era of racers and builders.
Falling for the Bronco
1966
The spark ignited when he got behind the wheel of a 1966 Ford Bronco. The vehicle’s versatility captured his imagination, and alongside his wife Ginger, the duo began crafting custom fiberglass fender flares in their El Cajon surf shop. Their innovation and attention to detail quickly gained traction, even catching the eye of off-road icon Bill Stroppe.
Building a Business, Building a Legacy
1969
Demand skyrocketed, and Viva Broncos moved from surfboards to suspension systems. The business grew into a hub for custom parts, supplying racers and builders with hand-formed flares, hoods, and more. It was more than a company—it was a community. One built on passion, performance, and personal connections.
Racing and Innovation
1969–1975
The Baja years were wild, raw, and unforgettable. Viva Broncos ran its own teams, managed pit crews, and tested every part in the crucible of desert endurance racing. The founder’s beloved Bronco, Hot Ginger, became a legend in its own right. After-race gatherings were less about business and more about brotherhood, fueling a legacy that endures to this day.
