Our History

Viva Chassis, originally founded as Viva Broncos in 1969, has a rich history rooted in the pursuit of excellence and innovation in the automotive chassis industry. What began as a small company with a big vision quickly grew into a trusted name among enthusiasts and professionals, known for creating durable, high-performance chassis components for vehicles.

In the early years, Viva Broncos focused primarily on creating parts for Ford Broncos, earning a reputation for precision and quality. As the automotive industry evolved, so did the company. Viva Broncos expanded its product line to cater to a broader range of vehicles, from classic cars to modern trucks, maintaining its commitment to engineering solutions that deliver both performance and safety.

VIVA Chassis - A New Era

In 2022, Viva Broncos took a bold step forward under new ownership when Josh Butcher acquired the company. With a fresh vision and a focus on the future, the company underwent a rebranding and became Viva Chassis. This name change reflects the company’s broader focus on high-performance chassis components across a wider spectrum of vehicles, not limited to just one model or make.

Since Josh Butcher’s acquisition, Viva Chassis has continued to innovate and expand its product offerings, staying at the forefront of automotive engineering. With state-of-the-art technology and a commitment to quality craftsmanship, Viva Chassis has solidified its place as a leader in the automotive parts industry.

The Origins of Viva Chassis
1960's

Viva Chassis traces its roots to the late 1960s, born from a passion for speed, adventure, and the rugged spirit of off-road racing. Our founder, a San Diego native, was first introduced to the world of off-roading during his service in Vietnam, where the thrill of traversing challenging terrain sparked a lifelong obsession. Returning home, he found himself captivated by the emerging off-road scene, particularly the legendary Baja 1000, which quickly became the "off-road Indy 500" for a new generation of racers

Falling for the Bronco
1966

After Vietnam, the founder’s journey led him through college and law school, but his true calling was found behind the wheel of a 1966 Ford Bronco. Inspired by the vehicle’s versatility and the camaraderie of the four-wheel-drive community, he and his wife Ginger—both avid surfers and fiberglass enthusiasts—began handcrafting fiberglass fender flares in their El Cajon surf shop. Their quality and innovation soon caught the attention of off-road legends like Bill Stroppe, and demand for their custom parts grew rapidly

Building a Business, Building a Legacy
1969

As orders increased, Viva Broncos (the original name) expanded operations to a rented garage, producing hand-formed flares, hoods, and other custom parts. The business thrived on personal relationships and a shared love of the sport, delivering parts directly to racing icons and learning from the best in the industry. The early 1970s marked a golden era for off-road racing, and Viva Broncos was at the heart of it—supporting teams, building vehicles, and innovating new products for the growing community

Racing and Innovation
1969 - 1975

From 1969 to 1975, Viva Broncos was deeply involved in the Baja racing scene, fielding teams, managing pit crews, and overcoming the logistical challenges of desert endurance racing. The company’s vehicles and parts were tested in the harshest conditions, leading to constant improvements and a reputation for durability and performance. The founder’s own Bronco, "Hot Ginger," became a fixture at races, and the shop’s after-race gatherings were legendary for their camaraderie and storytelling

TOMS OFFROAD
Jan 2023

The collaboration between Viva Chassis and TOMS OFFROAD officially kicked off on January 27, 2023, but the partnership began taking shape much earlier. Initial conversations started in July 2022 at the Bronco Super Celebration in Wisconsin, where the vision for a custom build was born. Viva Chassis went on to build Build #1 for TOMS, delivering it at the Bronco Super Celebration in Colorado that September. The build featured a refurbished frame from Tom’s personal collection, adding a unique and sentimental touch to the project. Today, that very chassis is proudly on display in TOMS OFFROAD’s new showroom in Oregon, showcasing the craftsmanship and spirit of the collaboration.

VIVAZILLA
Jan 2024

In January 2024, Viva Chassis kicked off the highly anticipated VIVAZILLA project—a bold step forward in performance and customization. The VIVAZILLA lineup includes everything from bare frames and four-link coilover suspension setups to rolling chassis, full chassis builds, and complete vehicle builds. At the heart of the project is the powerful VIVAZILLA engine, designed as a drop-in solution for virtually any application you can dream of. Customers can also rely on Viva Chassis to help source the right transmission and transfer case to complete their setup. While the Whipple Supercharger is an exciting optional upgrade, every VIVAZILLA engine comes standard with the Indy Power Products front accessory drive and a KMF oil pan—raising the bar for performance and reliability across the board.

A Lasting Impact
Today

Today, Viva Chassis stands as a testament to decades of passion, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of off-road excellence. Our history is etched in the dust of Baja, the laughter of shop gatherings, and the enduring relationships built along the way. We honor the pioneers, the unsung heroes of the pits, and the spirit of adventure that continues to drive us forward.
